And these are family-run businesses that snap the up usually when they are privatised. Sterlite Industries run by Anil Agarwal snapped up BALCO while IPCL was picked up by the Ambanis. Families are also increasing their stakes in their group companies. For example, promoters of Grasim Industries Ltd. have increased their holdings in the company to 25.07% by second quarter of the current financial year from 20.38% in second quarter of the FY2001-02. The same holds true for Mahindra & Mahindra also, whose promoters holding have gone up to 23.06% from 22% during the same period. Quite clearly, the Indian business family is holding firm in the era of intense globalisation. Leading the hordes this October are Microsoft and The Mozilla Foundation, each unveiling new variants of the Internet Explorer (IE) and Firefox, respectively. So while version 7 of IE announced its arrival looking zingy and evolved, folks at Mountain View, California (Mozilla’s headquarters) churned out another marvel to add to their open source sheen, the Firefox Version 2.0. Old foes, just that now they’re with new armour. A global open source project, Mozilla’s Firefox 2.0 being most compatible and lucid in its make delivers a winner. Having been overhauled with quite a few anatomical changes since version 1 & 1.5, Firefox’s recent enhancements, amongst others, include a superior interface, form controls and its much famed browser tabs. Further, an in-built ‘web forgery’ (Mozilla’s personal take on anti-phishing) identification system marks its debut this season endowing it with security features with a much-needed impetus against phishing bluffs or forgerers! Even the IE springs a few surprises. Following a five year lull, version 7 of the Internet Explorer finds itself a reputation by a successful transformation from what is now the browsing Stone Age. Foremost amongst the firsts is IE’s cleaner looking interface followed by tabbed browsing, a first time appearance in any of the IE versions. There’s another button added to the familiar line up, the orange colour RSS feeds subscription icon. Also in the fray, like 2.0, is a phishing-blocker tool that sniff s every web page for all those offensive phishers. Infusing more vigour into the open source debate, Firefox 2.0 emerges the blue eyed boy owing purely to a forward thinking approach and friendly features. While with IE7, Microsoft appears to have moved on with anti-phishing, tabbed browsing et al, Mozilla has strengthened on its already existing machinery that earlier included the explorer’s newbies. While IE remains stringent, Fire- fox fits unassumingly to the user’s whims and fancies and therefore continues to deliver its promise to delight… For more information on IIPM Editorial Article, please click here...,

Also visit the following:

IIPM Publications

Arindam Chaudhuri Initiative

Business & Economy

Source: IIPM, B&E

Can Reliance rely on Dhoni?

Flamboyant cricketer M S Dhoni is, in all likelihood, set to be a part of the Reliance Mobile campaign’s star cast; the campaign is slated to be on air by the end of this month. The buzz is that the campaign will showcase six big stars, in all. Cellular operators cashing on celebrity ambassadors is nothing new. If all goes well, December 31st will see Set Top Boxes (STB) entering the television homes in the three metros, while the neighbourhood cablewalahs will be seen folding up their cable wires from the same localities. While CAS has almost arrived and there are lesser chances of any controversies stalling its implementation this time round, the third DTH player of India, Tata Sky has also launched its services and is aggressively wooing customers. Remember the launch ad, which has the local sweeper sweeping away tons of discarded DVD players, music systems & even spectacles? For the past few years, the territories of operation in the DTH space were well defined, DD was happy with the rural masses, while Zee’s Dish TV was busy luring the urban junta. But with the entry of Tata Sky, a 80:20 joint venture between Tata group and Star Network, the DTH space is getting crowded & hotter.

For complete IIPM Research & Publication Article, please click here...

Editor: Arindam Chaudhuri

Source: IIPM Publication

Desiree (IIPM Publication)

Motorcycle Chair 114,521 INR

Ok, after the perfect chair for a villain (Desirée, Business & Economy Issue 11 Aug-24 Aug), we didn’t think we would stumble across a zanier piece of furniture so soon. Hey, why not throw in a free tattoo sitting, and a helmet too!

For complete IIPM Editorial Article, please click here...

Editor: Arindam Chaudhuri, Source: IIPM Publication

Other IIPM Articles:

Shiny Happy People!

The Cost of Capital: An International Comparison

Desiree: Villain Chair

Asger Jorn’s Oil Painting

A culture czar comes of age!

A Second Paradise

Iraq war kills one more...politically

Anil Dhirubhai Group

IIPM: Setting Benchmarks in the field of Education

Elections to be won & no promises to keep

It's not a matter of choice for Pepsi or Coke, it’s obligatory for survival...

India must counter Chinese expansions into Tibet and elsewhere

Revolution in the field of Education

Nepotism, groupism what else...

Visa: Only Visa Power, Go Get it.

BRAND : Visa

AGENCY : R.K Swamy/BBDO Advertising

BASELINE : Only Visa Power, Go Get it.

DESCRIPTION : Javed Jaffrey and Arshad Warsi are shopping in a departmental store. Tokushima City is undoubtedly the best place to touch down upon to experience this ‘spirit’ed festival. As thousands of people dressed in their summer kimonos perform the Awa Odori Dance, accompanied by the melody of drums, bells and flutes, it’s a breathtaking experience for the tourists and believed to be a calming catharsis even for the formless visitors. As darkness envelopes the town, lanterns are lit up at homes and temples, aft er which paper lanterns glowing with candlelight are set afloat onto the waters to guide the spirits tracing their way back to the other realm of the world… At morn, continue this spiritual sojourn by trekking up to Mt. In fact, it’s particularly common at older, established companies, where new competitive dynamics emerge seemingly out of nowhere to upend the status quo. Unfortunately, all too oft en, in these big companies, certain businesses have become such shrines that managers do not react with the kind of clear-eyed realism that your letter suggests. Look, change requires leaders to overcome all sorts of completely human dynamics, like inertia, fondness for tradition and hopefulness that things will get better. But such strategic moments require a kind of courage, or at least a lack of sentimentality, which is rare. It is in these moments that the best leaders find a mirror and ask the defining question that the late, great Peter Drucker posed nearly 50 years ago: “If you weren’t already in your business, would you enter it today?” If the answer is no, Drucker said, you need to face a second tough-question: “What are you going to do about it?” Every leader today should take heed to his advice and, if need be, follow it through to its conclusion, whether it is to fix, sell or close the business. Congratulations for having passed through the first two stages. Your decision may be tough in the short run, but will ultimately release your people from a losing work environment and enable them to find a future filled with opportunities, perhaps even with your new venture.

For more on IIPM Publication Article, click here...

Source: (Business& Economy), IIPM; Editor: Arindam Chaudhuri

IIPM News Article - Mixed Flavours

Tata Tea needs big acquisitions

Whoever says that Indian tea has lost its aroma? Tata Tea, the country’s largest tea producer, announced its annual results on June 7 amidst a round of cheer, giving a glimmer of optimism for the tumultuous Indian tea industry. The company saw strong returns with profits after tax at Rs.2.99 billion, 39% higher than the preceding year. Turnover figures stood at Rs.10.4 billion, up by 10%. These financials clearly reflect the strong branded volume growth of the company in India. Tata Tea’s consolidated world wide turnover had as much as 88% contribution from its branded tea operations. Also, the company has maintained reasonable profitability despite higher investments being made towards entering new markets. While Tata Tea’s domestic presence is unquestioned, it’s the global presence that raises a few eyebrows. Despite being the second largest player globally, Tata Tea still needs to find a footing in many markets across the globe. “We are not even present in over 60% of countries where tea is really consumed” pointed out P. T. Siganporia, MD, Tata Tea.

For complete IIPM Editorial Article, please click here...

Source: IIPM Publication , Editor: Arindam Chaudhuri

IIPM Publication - The unofficial dressing room of the Oscars...

However, when they need to skip to the loo to fix their hair or dab some rouge, it certainly isn’t one of those public toilets but Louis J. Jack Nicholson is one luminary particularly at home in this rest room, often found here before his stage appearance, with legs up on the table watching the show on the director’s monitors.
